Her work has gone viral on several different platforms and has been featured in AfroPunk, Teen Vogue, For Harriet, The Texas Observer, and Houston Public Media – just to name a few. She has performed in 49 states and has been a headliner in Norway, Ghana, Australia, and Canada. We hope you're ready to not only learn something, but laugh and interact throughout the event as well. The award-winning poet and storyteller, Ebony Stewart has a powerful voice and a drive to make an impact. She is a woman of many talents, as she wears the hat of an art-ivist, sexual health educator, and mental health advocate. In addition to being an international touring poet and performance artist, Ebony also has a master’s in social work, is a published author, award-winning playwright, and a Woman of the World Poetry Slam Champion. With a spellbinding blend of storytelling, verbal fitness, and raw emotion, she captivates audiences, inviting them into a world where vulnerability becomes strength and authenticity reigns supreme.

Ebony Stewart is an international touring interdisciplinary poet, writer, and performance artist. Her work speaks to the Black experience, with emphasis on gender, sexuality, womanhood, queer-positivity, and race, with the hopes to be relatable, remove shame, heal minds, encourage dialogue, and inspire folks in marginalized communities.

As one of the most decorated poets in Texas, Ebony is a respected coach & mentor, one of the top touring poets in the country, and the 2017 Woman of the World Poetry Slam Champion. She has shared stages with many prestigious figures in the artist world such as, the late-Amiri Baraka, Carmen Carerra, Marsha Ambrosius, Patricia Smith, Rudy Francisco, Ariana Brown, Lupe Mendez, and so many more. She has performed in 49 states, at over 200 colleges and universities across the country, as well as featured internationally in Canada, Australia, Ghana, and Norway.

She is the author of BloodFresh, Home.Girl.Hood., and Love Letters to Balled Fists. Her work has been featured in Button Poetry, AfroPunk, For Harriet, Teen Vogue, The Texas Observer, Houston Public Media, The BreakBeat Poets Vol. 2: Black Girl Magic, 2021 Colorism Healing Writing Contest, Write About Now Poetry, plus countless others.

As a playwright, Ebony’s one woman shows, Hunger and Ocean, have received B. Iden Payne Awards & the David Mark Cohen New Play Award.

Ebony is also a mental health advocate and former sexual health educator. With her recent Master's in Clinical Social Work, she is the hood's favorite mental health specialist.

 

AV Requirements

 

WHAT ebony NEEDS for in person events:

  • Wireless clicker

  • Projector or ability to cast powerpoint presentation with connectors

  • Laptop with USB hook-ups (Ebony travels with one as well)

  • Sound system for videos and music

  • Bottled water - room temp if possible

  • Wireless lapel microphone

what ebony needs for virtual events:

  • We ask that you create the virtual and supply the event link

  • Producer name and contact information

  • Please make the presenter a “co-host,” if possible.

  • Ebony uses PowerPoint slides for the presentation and prefers to advance his slides on screen share.

  • If questions will be submitted in advance, please do so before the AV check. If questions will be submitted through the Q&A or chat functions, please provide who will be moderating.

  • The Day of the Event - AV Check – 30-45 minutes before the presentation

 

Additional Notes

  • The presentation slides will be available only during the event.

  • Ebony uses PowerPoint slides for the presentation

  • Ebony brings her own laptop, which can be used to run the presentation if needed
