extended bio:
Ashlee Haze has brought poetry to unexpected spaces, including New York Fashion Week, Atlanta United Soccer, The WNBA, THINX, Pfizer, The Atlanta Dream, H&M, Blavity, and more. She appeared on NPR's Tiny Desk series alongside Queen & Slim Composer Blood Orange. After her poem “For Colored Girls who Don’t Need Katy Perry when Missy Elliott is Enough” went viral, Missy Elliott was so moved she showed up at the poet’s house. As a millennial who challenges tradition and the status quo, her performances are intended to enlighten and inspire.
In 2017, Ashlee decided to add “teacher” to her resume and launched the brand currently known as Moderne Philosophy. After realizing that formal education wasn’t for everyone, she committed herself to the mission of making education accessible for those who resisted the ivory tower. To that end, she launched a series of courses with one aim: to teach others what she wished she’d been taught. She realized that emotional and social education was not something that she encountered in her traditional studies, but that education in these areas was crucial to her becoming the best version of herself.
Since then, she’s taught hundreds of organizations how to become better versions of themselves in the areas of art, creative business, and authenticity. She’s taught people how to use their privilege as a means to inspire change. She’s taught the grieving how to work through the arduous process of healing. With a Bachelor’s in Philosophy with a focus on ethics and social justice and over 7 years of experience as a traveler and global citizen, she is a social scientist with the heart of a poet.
Moderne Philosophy exists to give people practical tools to improve their outcomes. We believe that by creating spaces for people to be themselves and ask questions without judgement that we reduce harm on a micro and a macro scale.
